This week’s #MeetTISB features Ms. Kavita, PY Art teacher. Born and raised in Bengaluru, she finished her schooling in Bishop Cottons and got her Bachelor's in Fine Art from Chitra Kala Parishad. She did her Montessori Teacher’s training at IMTC and started to teach early years at TISB and it’s her 16th year now. A couple of years ago she became a PY Art teacher.
She says “I’m now finally able to combine both my love of art and children!”
I strive to ensure that children are adding to their developmental skills like their large and fine motor skills and eye hand coordination. Creating opportunities in different aspects like art appreciation, giving value to others opinions and points of view, enabling patience, calmness, focus, perseverance
and overcoming blocks within themselves, helping in further balancing of the left and right hemisphere of their brain, more so now after the pandemic which has created a gap in the well-being of our children. I believe that all of these go towards broadening their views and enable them to have a more unconditional approach towards themselves and others.
In her understanding of art she feels that art skills can be compared but never the Artwork itself as each art piece is as unique as the individual who created it.
Quick Q&A
What is the best thing about being in TISB?
The best thing about being in TISB is its cultural diversity and my dedicated colleagues.
A new school rule that you would make?
More indoor and outdoor free play for PY children.
Your favourite spots on campus?
The pavilion in the cricket field on a rainy afternoon, picnicking with students underneath the yellow and red leaves of the almond trees, looking at the lone Indian Christmas tree/ Norfolk Island Pine in the far distance in the morning line up area.
One advice for the students?
My one piece of advice would be the quote below from my all-time favourite book, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery an extraordinarily profound book.
Thank you Ms. Kavita!
